Job Description

Cooper Union - Adjunct Faculty (Part-time) for the History and Theory of Art H-Net Job Guide • 05/08/2026 Job Institution Cooper Union Institution Type College / University Location New York, United States Position Instructor The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Cooper Union is currently accepting submissions from qualified candidates to teach elective courses in the History and Theory of Art curriculum . We especially seek faculty with expertise in any of the following areas of art history and theory: global topics and approaches, emphasizing non-western and/ or Indigenous art and visual cultures of any era; late 20th-21st century art practices especially considering issues of ecologies and environmentalism. A demonstrated record of undergraduate teaching is preferred.

The Cooper Union was founded in 1859 by philanthropist Peter Cooper to provide an education "equal to the best" to all who qualify, regardless of race, religion, gender, wealth or social status. Today, The Cooper Union provides a rigorous professional education in the Schools of Art, Architecture, and Engineering, including a broad curriculum offered by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Fostering a culture of collaboration among a diverse student body and faculty, The Cooper Union teaches students that art, architecture, and engineering have cultural, environmental, and ethical contexts and consequences. Qualifications:
ABD or PhD degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent and demonstrated strong teaching record preferred. Salary and rank are commensurate with experience. This is a unionized position.
