Job Description
The Department of French and Italian at Indiana University, Bloomington, invites applications for a one-year position as Visiting Lecturer of French, with the additional title and duties of Acting Director of Language Instruction (DLI) in French, effective August 1, 2026 and continuing through May 31, 2027. As DLI, the Visiting Lecturer will be responsible for managing all aspects of the basic French language program - including supervising graduate instructors - in collaboration with department faculty and the Director of Undergraduate Studies in French. We seek an individual who is committed to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate (and graduate) levels with native or near-native proficiency in French. Significant training or a degree specialization in language learning or instruction is required, along with a doctorate in French or a related discipline (such as, but not limited to, Second Language Acquisition or Pedagogy etc.). Candidates should have extensive teaching experience at the post-secondary level, along with evidence of pedagogical excellence as demonstrated by the teaching portfolio. Successful applicants will demonstrate the ability to design and implement curricula across multiple sections and levels, to engage in recruitment for the major, and to engage with high school French programs. The candidate will teach four courses per year in the French Language Program, including graduate pedagogy courses. H1-B sponsorship is not available for this position.
