Lecturer in Modern Chinese History 4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars United States $75,010 a year - Full-time Columbia University 1,918 reviews $75,010 a year - Full-time The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Columbia University invites applications for a full-time term-limited Lecturer in Modern Chinese History to begin Fall 2026 . This is a one-year appointment with the possibility of reappointment for a total of two years contingent upon excellent performance. The successful candidate will teach two modern Chinese history courses per semester, in consultation with the Chinese history faculty, the Chair of the East Asian Languages and Cultures (EALAC) department and the Weatherhead East Asian Institute (WEAI) director. These courses may include teaching the History of Modern China I and II sequential lecture courses. Depending upon curricular need, the candidate may also be expected to teach 4000-, 6000-or 9000-level courses. Additional responsibilities include serving as advisors to undergraduates working on Chinese history in the EALAC and History departments, as well as graduate students in EALAC's MA program and the
WEAI MARSEA
program.
The successful candidate should have:
A Ph.D. in Chinese history Demonstrated excellence in teaching modern Chinese history at the college level.
