Job Description

The School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (SLLC) at the University of Maryland, College Park, invites applications for a full-time (40 hours) professional-tack faculty position as a Lecturer in German. The successful candidate will teach an equivalent of 24 credits per year at the undergraduate level, with a focus on introductory German language courses. In addition to teaching, responsibilities include mentorship of students and service to the program. We seek candidates whose teaching and service have prepared them to contribute to the four pillars of the
ARHU Strategic Plan:
Transformative Thinking; Boundless Creativity; Expansive Empathy; and Meaningful Futures. Contributions toward those goals and values might include leadership in teaching, mentoring, or service toward building an equitable and inclusive scholarly environment and/or increasing access or participation of all individuals equitably and fairly. Lecturers who teach two or more courses per term are benefits-eligible. This search is contingent upon the availability of funds.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
MA in German or related field by time of appointment.
Experience:
Evidence of excellence in college-level teaching. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSAs) Native or near-native fluency in German. Native or near-native fluency in English. Knowledge of best practices in the teaching of world languages. Ability and commitment to work with a diverse student population.
Preferences:
Interest in taking an active role in program development and outreach.
