Job Description
Position SummaryThe Library Media Specialist serves as the instructional leader and administrative manager for both the Middle School and High School library programs. As the "hub" of the school community, the library requires a candidate capable of fostering a sophisticated academic environment while managing high-volume student activity. This role involves direct classroom instruction, comprehensive collection management, and the expert use of library information systems.
Primary ResponsibilitiesMulti-Level Library ManagementOversee the daily operations of both the Middle School and High School library facilities, with the help of a library aide.
Develop and maintain a vibrant, student-centered environment that serves as a primary hub for independent study, collaboration, and research.
Manage the acquisition, cataloging, and circulation of all print and digital assets.
Instructional LeadershipDesign and deliver formal library and information literacy lessons to all grade levels in the middle school (58).Collaborate with department faculty to integrate research skills, ethical AI use, and media literacy into the core curriculum.
Provide specialized research assistance to high school students preparing for college-level inquiry.
Technical Systems OversightDemonstrate mastery of library management software to ensure accurate inventory and data reporting.
Manage digital databases, e-book platforms, and instructional technology tools.
Troubleshoot and provide first-line support for library-based hardware and software.
Collection DevelopmentCurate a diverse and balanced collection that supports both the developmental needs of middle schoolers and the academic rigors of the high school curriculum.
Perform regular data-driven analysis (weeding and gap analysis) to ensure the collection remains current and relevant.
Key CompetenciesAbility to transition seamlessly between middle school instructional methods and high school academic support.
Strong organizational skills to manage two distinct physical spaces and budgets.
A commitment to maintaining the library as a welcoming, high-traffic center of school culture.

Professional QualificationsEducation:
Masters Degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution.Licensure:
Valid State Certification as a School Library Media Specialist (K-12).Technical Proficiency:
Proven experience with library automation systems, digital cataloging standards, and educational technology.Communication:
