The ideal candidate is an engaging public service professional with strong leadership skills, a passion for community engagement, and a commitment to delivering excellent library services. Under the general direction of the Public Service Manager, the Supervising Librarian provides strategic leadership and oversees the daily operations of their assigned service area. They guide staff in delivering welcoming, helpful, and respectful library service, fostering a positive environment where team members feel empowered to make informed, collaborative decisions that support patron needs. This position plays a key role in ensuring that services are inclusive, efficient, and aligned with the Library's commitment to community-centered service. The Supervising Librarian for Adult Services works closely with colleagues across departments to strengthen workflows, improve patron experiences, and support system-wide initiatives. The position also contributes to administrative functions, mentors staff, and occasionally serves as Person In Charge.
Salary Range:

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Hires, onboards, trains, and supervises staff, including paraprofessionals, pages, and/or librarians, depending on specialty. Provides excellent customer service to patrons of all ages by creating an inclusive space that reflects the diversity of our community. Models a "Welcome All" attitude that prioritizes relationship-building over transactions. Oversees daily operations of the assigned service area, ensuring smooth workflows and high-quality patron experiences. Coordinates and oversees staff scheduling. Plans, coordinates, and leads division projects, delegating responsibilities as appropriate. Participates actively in the Library Leadership Team, representing the perspective of their specialty area. Assists with administrative duties, including statistics retrieval and analysis, system reviews, and process assessments. Collaborates with staff to discuss services and needs; assists in developing new services, programs, and activities. Works with patrons to resolve account or service issues, escalating or arbitrating concerns as needed. Ensures that relevant Department and City communications are available to staff. Maintains statistics and reporting for the Director as needed. Acts as Person In Charge on a rotating basis. Performs other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL SUPERVISORY DUTIES
Supervises Adult Services team members. Oversees planning, coordination, and evaluation of adult programs, including author events, technology instruction, cultural programs, and lifelong learning initiatives. Curates adult collections in collaboration with the Collection Development team. Provides leadership in reference, research support, and reader's advisory for adults. Builds partnerships with community organizations, senior centers, and local businesses. Oversees technology-related services for adults, including digital literacy support. Coordinates major adult initiatives such as community reads or civic engagement programs

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
Master's degree in library and information science from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent program. One (1) to three (3) years of related public library experience. Supervisory or project/process management experience in a library setting preferred but not required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Excellent customer service skills. Knowledge of library management methods and practices. Creative enthusiasm for working with patrons of all ages. Ability to assist patrons in locating information and materials. Respect for patron privacy. Knowledge of public library principles and services. Familiarity with library materials in all formats. Comfort with a broad range of technologies. Ability to communicate clearly in writing and speech. Ability to exercise initiative and judgment. Skill in coaching and leading a team. Ability to plan and coordinate the work of direct reports. Physical ability to lift, move, bend, and reach as required in daily library operations.
LICENSE, REGISTRATION, OR CERTIFICATE
A valid Colorado driver's license and acceptable driving record are required.
OTHER NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS
Occasional use of personal transportation may be required for outreach to schools, community organizations and for staff development opportunities. Mileage reimbursement is provided.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB

The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and via video conferencing; visual acuity sufficient to read documents, computer screens, and reports The employee must be able to regularly move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed indoors in an office and library environment. Exposure to routine office noise and equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually low.
Schedule:
Must have the ability to work evenings, weekends, and occasional special events.
