Job Description

Library Director Wanatah Public Library The Wanatah Public Library is more than a place to borrow books—it is a welcoming community hub for learning, connection, and opportunity. The Library Director plays an important role in ensuring the library remains an accessible, responsive, and engaging resource for the community. The Director manages the day-to-day operations of the library under the supervision of the Library Board of Trustees. This includes working closely with staff, supporting programs and services, and helping the library stay connected to community needs.
Compensation Annual salary:
$35,000 This position does not include employer-provided benefits. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide leadership, supervision, and support to library staff and volunteers, including scheduling and day-to-day oversight Direct and manage daily library operations, including public services, facilities, and technology Plan, develop, implement, and promote library programs and services that meet community needs Establish, maintain, and strengthen partnerships with local schools, organizations, and community groups Serve as a representative and advocate for the library within the community Prepare and administer the annual budget; monitor expenditures and provide financial reports to the Library Board Complete and maintain required reports, records, and documentation in compliance with local and state requirements Oversee the selection, development, and maintenance of library collections Implement and administer library policies and procedures in coordination with the Library Board of Trustees Maintain consistent and effective communication with the Library Board regarding operations, services, and needs Minimum Qualifications Ability to obtain an Indiana Librarian Certification within a reasonable period following hire Prior management, supervisory, or administrative experience Ability to successfully complete a background check Preferred Qualifications Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills Experience in community engagement, program development, or program oversight Demonstrated ability to build partnerships and collaborate with a variety of stakeholders Experience with grant-writing, fundraising, or resource development Working Conditions & Expectations Work is performed in a public library environment with frequent interaction with patrons and community members Position may require occasional evening or weekend hours based on programming or operational needs The Director is expected to maintain a visible, professional, and approachable presence within the library and the broader community
Pay:
$17.00 - $20.00 per hour
