Position Title:
Media Specialist (187 Day Contract) Reports to: Principal of Service School
SUMMARY:
Plans and established media program, goals and outcomes in accordance with building curriculum and district and state guidelines.
Program Leadership & Administration:
Manages all operations of the library media center, including policy development, budgeting, goal setting, and evaluation in collaboration with administrators, staff, and students.
Collection Development & Resource Management:
Selects, organizes, catalogs, maintains, and evaluates print and digital resources using professional standards (e.g., Dewey, MARC) to support curriculum and promote literacy.
Instructional Collaboration:
Works with teachers to integrate library, information, and technology skills into instruction; supports curriculum planning and provides staff training in new materials and technologies.
Student Engagement & Information Literacy:
Teaches students to locate, evaluate, and use information effectively; promotes lifelong reading, research, and critical thinking skills through flexible library access.
Supervision & Communication:
Trains and supervises clerical staff, student helpers, and volunteers; maintains strong communication with faculty, students, and administration; publicizes programs and services.
Professionalism & Compliance:
Upholds copyright and ethical standards; maintains KDE certification; demonstrates professional growth through associations, conferences, and adherence to school and district policies.
Additional Responsibilities:
Performs other duties as assigned by the principal and/or district administration to support the school's overall mission and goals.
