Primary responsibilities of this position are to: provide professional level expertise in the delivery of library services to patrons, including reference, readers' advisory, programming and outreach, and library instruction to the public of all ages; help the collection management team with the marketing of collections and any other needs; provide leadership for paraprofessional staff in their service to the public; and assist in the management of the Callaway branch. Essential Duties:
Assist library users in the location and use of library materials, computers, equipment and services using advanced library research skills and methodology. Assume a lead role in the operations of the library as a whole by presenting a professional attitude in the development and provision of library services to all library users. Serve as a resource to other staff for all purposes of information and training in designated areas of expertise. Includes computer and mobile device usage, social media platforms, marketing collections, ADA, and the library's automation system. Serve as the Librarian-in-Charge as designated; provide leadership and support by supervising the workflow and staff in the Callaway County Public Library, responding to requests for policy interpretation. Work in consultation with other Callaway County Public Library staff to troubleshoot and monitor equipment and workflow procedures and make recommendations to respond to changing needs. Work with the Collection Management team as needed. Develop and apply an understanding of the needs of the community; maintain familiarity with materials in the collection; understanding of the Library Bill of Rights, the Freedom to Read statement, and the library's selection policy. Build effective working relationships with the public and other library staff members; work as a team member with other staff to provide a continuum of library services to the public. Serve as a member of the Callaway County management team to plan, formulate and administer defined patron services. Identify needs and make recommendations to improve customer service in the branches including: training needs of staff and the public relative to DBRL collections, computer usage, policies, and practices. Develop and deliver presentations as a library representative to community groups; plan and present programs; conduct tours of the facility and provide Outreach and other specialized library related services Participate in the analysis and planning for the organization, and assist in formulating and implementing long-range organizational plans (i.e. goals, objectives, and strategies). Complete special projects as assigned. Prepare reports as needed or requested. Serve as a member of DBRL committees as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Serves as Librarian-in-Charge of the Callaway County Public Library building as designated. Duties and responsibilities, as required by business necessity may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing. Scheduling and shift assignments and work location may be changed at any time, as required by business necessity.
Physical, Environmental, and Special Working Conditions:
Position requires standing or sitting for extended periods of time, pushing bookcarts, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, and working on a computer. Position may require outreach activities including driving outreach vehicle, setting up booths and lifting small equipment. Moderately loud work environment. Work will be required on evenings and weekends. All library employees may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Minimum Job Requirements:
MLS degree from an ALA accredited program; Class E Missouri driver's license and excellent driving record.
Preferred Job Requirements:
2-4 years of relevant public library work experience preferred.
