Immediately Job Description The Laurel School District is seeking applicants for a Long-Term Substitute Teacher for Elementary Librarian starting immediately through June 4, 2026.
QUALIFICATIONS
BA/BS Degree in Education. Valid Montana Teaching Certificate with proper endorsement(s). (Must have valid Montana teaching certificate prior to teaching) Ability to write reports and effectively communicate in written and oral form. Ability to effectively present information and respond appropriately to inquiries from students, parents, staff, and community. Ability to handle stressful situations and effectively manage time and responsibilities. Ability to maintain confidentiality of employment and student matters.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Oversee the daily operations of the school library, ensuring an organized and welcoming environment for students and staff and ensures that all district policies and procedures, as approved by the Board of Trustees, are followed. Select, purchase, catalog, and maintain a diverse collection of books, digital resources, and instructional materials that support curriculum and student interests. Teach students and staff how to locate, evaluate, and effectively use print and digital research and academic purposes. Evaluates student performance in library class, if applicable, by assessing participation, engagement, completion of assigned tasks, and adherence to library rules and procedures. Assigns grades based on established criteria, providing feedback to support student learning and responsible library use. Collaborate with teachers to integrate library resources into lesson plans and provide instructional support for research projects and literacy development. Assist students and teachers in using educational technology, databases, and online resources to enhance learning and research skills. Develop and implement reading programs, book clubs, and literacy initiatives to foster a love of reading among students. Establish and enforce library policies related to book circulation, technology use, and appropriate behavior to maintain a productive learning space. Provide individual and group guidance to students and staff in conducting effective research and using library resources efficiently. Ensure that the library collection and programming reflect diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and voices to support an inclusive learning environment. Design and deliver lessons based on Montana State Library Standards Collaborate with staff to identify resource needs, co-teach research-based lessons, and support classroom learning initiatives. Stay current with best practices in library science, emerging educational technologies, and trends in children's and young adult literature. Manage library funds, track expenditures, and seek grant opportunities or community partnerships to enhance library services. Maintain library equipment, computers, and digital tools, ensuring accessibility and proper functionality for student and staff use. Advocate for library resources and programming by demonstrating their value in student achievement and overall school success. Provide specialize resources and accommodations to support students with diverse learning needs. Work with families, local organizations, and public libraries to extend learning opportunities beyond the school setting. Maintain records of library usage, inventory, and circulation statistics while ensuring compliance with district and state regulations. Guide and counsel students with adjustment and/or academic problems, or special academic interests. Enforce administrative policies and rules governing students. Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence. Attend staff meetings, and serve on committees as required.
