Their role involves collecting, organizing, cataloging, and issuing resources, as well as providing reference and research assistance. They may also be responsible for managing databases, overseeing staff, and implementing new technologies. Experience /Qualifications A typical librarian job description requires a Master's degree in Library Science (MLS) or equivalent, strong knowledge of library systems, cataloging standards, and information retrieval, along with experience in customer service and collaboration. Essential skills include strong communication, organization, and research abilities, plus familiarity with library technology and digital tools. Compensation The average hourly pay for a Part Time Library Assistant in Tennessee is $16.96 an hour
Key Responsibilities Resource Management:
Collecting, organizing, cataloging, and issuing library resources (books, films, audio files, etc.).
Information Assistance:
Helping patrons find information, providing research assistance, and teaching library resources.
Program Development:
Developing and implementing programs, activities, and educational opportunities for library users.
Technical Services:
Managing databases, cataloging materials, and implementing new technologies.
Administrative Duties:
Overseeing library staff, preparing budgets, and implementing library policies.
Community Engagement:
Promoting literacy, learning, and access to information in the community. Knowledge of library science principles and practices: including cataloging, classification, and collection development.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills:
to effectively interact with patrons and staff.
Information literacy skills:
to effectively search for, evaluate, and present information.
Technical proficiency:
with library management systems and digital resources. Ability to work independently and collaboratively: as part of a team. Passion for learning and sharing knowledge: to support the library's mission of providing access to information.
