The Opportunity:
West Liberty University is seeking applications for a Staff Librarian. The Staff Librarian provides leadership to ensure library services effectively support teaching, learning, and research, with a strong emphasis on assisting students with academic research and information literacy. This includes helping students develop research strategies, navigate databases, evaluate sources, and apply proper citation practices. The Staff Librarian delivers professional library services across a range of areas, including reference, interlibrary loan, acquisitions, archives, technical services, and depository management. The role involves direct engagement with students and faculty to support research needs and promote effective use of library resources. This position contributes to the overall effectiveness of library operations by applying established policies to complex situations and supporting continuous improvement in research databases, digital tools, and library services. Work is performed independently under general direction, requiring sound judgment and problem-solving skills to address varied and often complex issues. Decisions made in this role have a meaningful impact on library services and support the institution's broader mission of student success and academic excellence.
Essential Functions of the position:
Provide academic research assistance to students and faculty, including developing research strategies, navigating databases, evaluating sources, and supporting proper citation practices Deliver reference and library services across multiple areas, including interlibrary loan, acquisitions, archives, technical services, and depository management Promote and support information literacy through one-on-one assistance, workshops, and collaboration with faculty Ensure equitable access to library resources, services, and systems in both physical and virtual environments Develop and implement library policies and operational guidelines that support institutional goals and maintain the integrity of services Support collection development, ensuring adequate and relevant research resources are available within budget and aligned with academic needs Monitor and adapt to technological advancements, including maintaining knowledge of research databases and digital tools Manage and oversee licensing, copyright, and consortia agreements to ensure compliance and access to resources Assist in the supervision of library staff, including assigning work, supporting performance evaluations, and contributing to personnel decisions as appropriate Collaborate with campus partners to enhance student success, research support, and academic engagement Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Education & Experience Requirements:
Graduate degree in related area required At least 3 years of relevant, related, experience, including student employment experience required.
Skills/Abilities:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organization and interpersonal skills Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, faculty and other university departments.
