Job Description
Manages, directs, and supervises the daily operations of a library department. This may include programming, special events, reference services, collection development, research, acquisitions, classification, and/or cataloging. Works closely with appropriate library staff to develop, enhance, and promote services of the department and the library as a whole. The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description . Supervises the work of assigned personnel, including assigning and reviewing work, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations. Performs cataloguing and processing of new materials. Collaborates with library management and personnel to ensure quality public library services and collections throughout the system. Disseminates information about events, collections, and services to all library staff. Develops and manages collections of public library information resources to serve the community, including print and non-print materials, technology, and recreational resources. Develops, administers, monitors, and coordinates the Department budget. Manages the spending of allocated funds to ensure that new materials arrive on a regular basis throughout the fiscal year. Reviews and approves department invoices for payment. Works with various community organizations to provide instruction and promote Library. Formulates and interprets policies and procedures. Responds to patron/staff inquiries in a courteous manner. Resolves complaints in an efficient and timely manner. Plans and implements public library programs to meet the needs of the community. Determines outcomes for programs and evaluates quality. Performs related duties as required.
Required Education and Experience:
Graduate Degree in Library Science or related field Three (3) to five (5) years of experience Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilitiesRequired Licenses or Certifications:
Class C driver's licenseNotary Public Knowledge of:
English grammar, spelling, and punctuation Principles and practices of basic bookkeeping Modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment Wyoming Libraries Database (WYLD) automated system Principles and practices of employee supervision Principles and practices of public librarianship Tools, methods, and techniques for evaluating, selecting, and weeding books and other library materials Principles and practices of budget preparation and administration Research techniques, methods, and procedures Library collection development and management Skill in: Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature Performing basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and ratios Communication, both oral and written Customer service Leadership Ability to: Meet schedules and deadlines of the work Understand and carry out oral and written directions Accurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic files Maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries Prepare clear and concise reports Maintain accurate records Make public presentations Develop goals and objectives for area of assignment Market and promote library services Catalog and process materialsPHYSICAL DEMANDS
