This role supports Access Services by helping patrons navigate print and digital collections, performing interlibrary loan processing, maintaining library materials, and offering basic hardware, software, and equipment troubleshooting. Working collaboratively with library faculty and staff, the Library Specialist contributes to special projects, outreach activities, and daily operations to advance the mission and goals of the community college library. This position is responsible for ensuring the library is ready for operations daily. Essential Functions 30%
  • Works as a contributing member of a collaborative team of staff, faculty and student workers to assist library patrons at the circulation desk with the use of library services; provides direct customer service at the circulation desk using an integrated library system; troubleshoots library technology, including computers, printers/copiers, and media equipment; assists with locating library materials, stack maintenance and inventories, as well as ads to and reinforces library policies 30%•Processes inter-library and inter-district loans utilizing specialized software and an integrated library system 20%•Helps plan and participate in special projects, social media, and outreach programs; orders equipment and office supplies; serves on college/district committees; pursues professional growth; performs other duties as assigned.

  • Opens library building, ensuring operational readiness Minimum Qualifications Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and one year of experience in library support services such as as library information resources, circulation services and equipment coordination.
OR An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered. Desired Qualifications A. Two or more years of experience in a library environment, performing various Access Services tasks (circulation services, collection maintenance, reserves, etc). B. One or more years of experience in a college or academic environment assisting students. C. One or more years of experience with operational procedures for buildings/departments such as opening and/or closing. D. Experience using technology such as Google Suite, Microsoft Office, various internet browsers, and office technology (such as printers/copiers, scanners) E. Experience working with students and/or community members in a customer service environment F. One (1) year of relevant full-time MCCCD experience during the previous two years Special Working Conditions Positions in this class typically require: stooping, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Sedentary Work:
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
Working Conditions:
Work is routinely performed in an indoor, office environment.
