Job Description
The Boise Public Library is hiring two Part-Time (20 hours/week) Library Assistants! Boise Public Library is seeking two welcoming, community-minded Library Assistant II team members to join us at the Downtown Library in part-time, 20-hour/week roles—one in Information Services and one in Youth Services. These roles will collaborate across departments, so employees will be touching a little bit of each area. In Information Services , this role will help connect patrons with books, digital tools, library resources, and trusted answers, reflecting the Library's emphasis on expert guidance, technology access, and community support. In Youth Services , this role will help children, teens, and families discover the joy of reading and learning through programs, collections, and early literacy experiences that support growth from birth through the school years. Both positions are ideal for people who enjoy public service, believe in the power of libraries to strengthen community, and want to create a warm, positive experience for every visitor who walks through our doors.
Assists library users with circulation, reference, reader's advisory and other library services. Researches user's account information and resolves customer concerns tactfully, using discretion and initiative to meet customer needs. Maintains an intermediate knowledge of library resources and practices. Assists the public with library computer use and related technology. Researches user inquiries and explains policies and procedures. Refers more complex issues to higher-level staff. Performs proper library opening and closing procedures. Checks in returned materials using library computer systems. Maintains library collections by accurately sorting and shelving materials. Performs semi-routine tasks requiring some discretion and use of limited judgment and initiative, including processing damaged or incomplete library materials. Orders supplies for the office and programs, as needed. Provides leadership, coaching and mentoring to lower-level positions for tasks such as developing displays to effectively promote programs, library services and materials, as needed. Assists in planning and delivering in-house and outreach programs for users of all ages, as needed. Represents the library, participates in library-wide teams and city-wide system projects and collaborates with other branch staff to maintain and improve branch operations, as needed. Performs all duties of lower-level related positions and handles moderately complex issues and problems. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training High school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience providing customer service or working with diverse populations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge of:

Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training Three years of experience in a public library or similar environment providing customer service to diverse populations. Some specialized training or coursework and experience working in a library setting. Physical Efforts While performing the duties of this job the employee is always lifting/carrying up to 35 pounds and rarely lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds. Also, the employee is always pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds, frequently pushing/pulling up to 75 pounds and occasionally pushing/pulling up to 100 pounds. The noise level is frequently moderate and occasionally loud. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear, smell and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, climb and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity. Working Environment The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, areas of dust, odors, mist and gases or other airborne matter.
