Safety Monitor/ Circulation Clerk Prairie Trails Public Library District Burbank, IL Job Details Part-time $17.50 - $22.50 an hour 4 hours ago Benefits Paid holidays Retirement plan Qualifications Computer operation Phone communication Outdoor work In-person customer service High school diploma or GED Cultural competency Public safety procedures Patrolling Productivity software Physical security emergency response Full Job Description Job Summary This is a part-time position with regularly scheduled hours, which may also extend due to any emergent situation. This employee will focus on assisting staff in maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment through equitable enforcement of library policies and procedures.
Responsibilities and Job Functions:
Patrols the library building and grounds at designated intervals and maintains monitor log Monitors the library's surveillance system Analyzes situations, assesses the degree of emergency, and responds appropriately following policies and procedures Observes patron behavior and addresses problems as needed. Responds to incidents involving violation of library policies Collaborates with the Person-in-Charge and authorities to follow through on incidents, including filling out library incident reports and any required police reports. Reports acts of vandalism in library building and grounds Contacts police and emergency services as needed and updates person in charge or administration Performs circulation duties according to circulation procedures such as: Check in/ Check out; Patron registration; Inter-library Loan; Circulation Tasks; Cash Register Assists patrons with minor computer / copier questions from the public and answers directional questions Assists person in charge in emergent situations Maintains a courteous and polite manner when dealing with public and staff Performs closing procedures Represents library at outreach events Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent Comprehensive customer service experience, or one-year experience in Security field or equivalent study Broad cultural competency knowledge and skills, with the ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse community and workforce. Committed to anti-racist behaviors and policies Must be available to work evenings and weekends General knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Ability to empathize with patrons and staff Ability to recognize and handle emergency situations in a calm, capable manner Ability to follow and implement library policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner Competent communication skills—telephone, written, and in-person. Bilingual in Polish, Arabic, or Spanish highly desirable. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks. Ability to exercise reasonable and independent judgment and discretion. Ability to adapt to and effectively implement change. Must provide own transportation
