Qualifications:
Master's degree or equivalent in Library Media, Computer Science, Media Technology, Library Science, or related field Valid Massachusetts School Library Media Specialist License Experience in Media/Technology Services Prior related work experience at the assigned school level Technological expertise Ability to communicate orally and in writing with staff, parents, and studentsJob Goals:
1. To provide library/media instruction which supports the Massachusetts Common Core Standards, the mission and vision of the Boxford Public Schools and enriches the educational process. 2. To provide all students with an enriched library environment containing a wide variety and range of materials that will invite intellectual growth, and to aid all students in acquiring skills needed to take optimal advantage of media center resources.Performance Responsibilities:
Operates and supervises a state-of-the-art media center in keeping with national and state guidelines. Model the effective and enthusiastic use of books, videos, multimedia, and other creative expressions of information as sources of pleasure and information. Organizes library material, equipment, and facilities for effective and efficient utilization and circulation. Plans, equips and maintains attractive facilities. Keeps the collection current within the constraints of the annual budget by purchasing quality print and non-print materials to assure a balanced and current collection of materials free from bias and ensure a diversity of viewpoints and genres. Utilizes the library automation system to track library collection. Maintains appropriate records of library materials. Through a working knowledge of books and authors in the collection, assists students with reading selections. Is aware of and supports the curriculum through collection development. Actively plans with teachers and groups of teachers to integrate library services and multimedia materials with the instructional program. Determines the needs of teachers and students as a basis for the selection of new materials and equipment. Does a periodic inventory of library collection as well as library AV equipment and library computers. Coordinates and cooperates with other school libraries as well as with public libraries. Helps staff make full use of the services and resources of the library media center. Shows professional growth by continuing with education, attending conferences and workshops, keeping current on new technology developments, reading professional literature, etc. Reads literature for appropriate grade level. Develops budget for the library. Provides the community with updates from the Library Media Center. Regularly welcomes and encourages families to become active participants in the Library Media Center. Serves on district wide technology committee. Shows professional growth by continuing with education, attending conferences and workshops, keeping current on new technology. Serves on district-wide Technology Committee. Works with teachers in planning those assignments likely to lead to extended use of media center resources. Teaches technological literacy skills to students. Maintains a working knowledge of software and CD-ROMs. Collaborate with teachers and staff to integrate information literacy competencies throughout the teaching and learning process. Formulates Library procedures. Works collaboratively with the Library Media Assistant. Other duties assigned by the Principal.FLSA Status:

Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods (up to 6-8 hours per day) to instruct students, circulate the classroom, monitor hallways, and supervise recess/lunch.Reaching and Lifting:
Ability to reach overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally to access and arrange teaching materials, whiteboards, or bulletin boards.Lifting and Carrying:
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds (e.g., boxes of books, educational supplies, or technology equipment) on an occasional basis.Bending and Kneeling:
Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, or sit on the floor frequently to interact with students at their level, assist with classroom activities, and manage behavior.Repetitive Motion:
Use of hands and fingers for keyboarding, writing, grading, and manipulating materials. 2. Sensory RequirementsVisual Acuity:
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus (e.g., to read student work, observe students across a classroom, and monitor computer screens).Hearing Acuity:
Ability to hear and understand spoken directions at a conversational level, as well as the ability to distinguish and interpret sounds (e.g., a whisper, fire alarm, or distress calls from students) in a noisy environment.Speaking/Verbal Communication:
Ability to clearly articulate verbal information to students, parents, and colleagues, including the ability to project one's voice in a classroom or auditorium setting. 3. Stamina and DurationSustained Energy:
Ability to maintain a high level of energy and mental alertness throughout the entire school day, managing the physical and mental demands of teaching.Sitting:
Ability to sit for moderate periods to complete administrative tasks, planning, grading, or conduct small group instruction. 4. Safety and Emergency ManagementQuick Response:
Ability to physically respond quickly to emergencies, safety concerns, or unexpected physical demands (e.g., intervening in a student dispute, assisting an injured student, or performing emergency evacuation procedures).Pushing/Pulling:
