Full Job Description Primary Objective:
Maintain the school library media center to offer students the best possible opportunities for educational enrichment, personal enjoyment and academic development. Furthermore, offering teachers help in fulfilling their primary function of educating the whole student.
Major Areas of Accountability:
Select, organize, catalogue and support media, print and non-print, materials to supplement the school curriculum and to enrich the students' personal experience Discard material no longer suitable, i.e. beyond repair, outdated, etc. Supervise library lab aides Maintain equipment inventory and minor repairs Offer support to students and teachers in finding materials Provide instruction in basic library skills to students Promote in students a love of books and a desire to read Offer the real service of or instruction in the use of all kinds of media hardware Remain knowledgeable on inclusive texts suitable for elementary aged students
Primary Responsibilities:
To ensure students and staff are effective users of ideas and information To empower students to be critical thinkers, skillful researchers, ethical users of information and passionate readers To instill the love of learning in all students and ensure equitable access to information To collaborate with classroom teachers and specialists to design and implement lessons, then assess student and instructional effectiveness To provide leadership and expertise necessary to ensure the school library/media center is aligned with the vision, mission, and goals of the school and district while also being an integral component of student learning To offer teachers assistance in fulfilling their primary function of educating students To maintain the library and technology inventory Promote in students a love of reading and books Assume other responsibilities as needed
Qualifications:
Valid Missouri Library Media Specialist Certification Classroom experience preferred Strong English and technology skills preferred Technology experience
