This position assists in managing a library collection and performs a variety of media center and clerical duties including working with groups of students in developing media skills and assisting with computer needs.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned. Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policy(ies) and procedures. Troubleshoots Chromebooks & Chromebook Applications used in classrooms. Knows and is able to use the Dewey Decimal System. Processes new books and equipment. Repairs, covers and binds damaged books. Assists students with selection of books, online reference searches, photocopying and computer help. Supervises students during library visits. Prepares materials as requested by teaching staff for instruction. Assists librarian as requested in delivering instruction (ex. Book talks, Breakout sessions, etc.) Processes check-ins and check-outs of books and equipment. Coordinates set-up of special events in the library. Works with students in groups or individually assisting in the development of media skills (using the online catalogues, finding books on the shelf, accessing SORA and research databases) Encourages students to read (maintains knowledge of current YA novels including the Gateway Nominees, engages students in activities and events and conversation regarding books) Inventories and stocks library supplies. Assists with bulletin boards, displays and library décor. Moves furniture or other library equipment. Assists with collections of fees. Performs general office duties including answering phones, directing calls, taking messages as appropriate, copying, filing, sorting material and general correspondence. Attends work regularly and is punctual. ___________________________________________________________________SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment.QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Associate degree or equivalent OR Two-years (60 credit hours) of study at an institute of higher learning AND Current substitute teacher certificate (DESE)Interpersonal Skills:
Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Focuses on solving conflict; maintaining confidentiality; listening to others without interrupting; keeping emotions under control; remaining open to others' ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit. Ability to successfully work with students and staff.Computer Skills:
General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use database software, internet software, e-mail, spreadsheets and word processing software. Ability to provide basic computer, AV equipment and hardware troubleshooting. Knowledge of the following programs strongly preferred: PowerPoint, MS Excel, MS Word, Publisher and the Google Suite. Knowledge of video editing/Green Screen software preferred. If no prior knowledge, a willingness to learn is a must.Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand for extended periods of time. Occasionally lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds and rearrange furniture.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
