Job Description

JOB Alamance County Public Libraries (ACPL) is seeking a children's Circulation Assistant. Within this position the Circulation Assistant will be expected to provide excellent customer service, interacting directly with library patrons at the Checkout and Children's Desk. Performs a variety of clerical tasks dealing primarily with the circulation of materials. Must be able to perform physically demanding duties related to checking in, checking out and shelving materials in a busy environment. This is a part-time - non-benefited role, 13 hour per week position including at least two evenings per week and two weekends per month. Best candidates will possess a strong commitment to provide excellent customer service including the ability to provide customer-focused service for a positive library experience and to relate tactfully and courteously with a wide range of diverse patrons and community members. Having a willingness to learn library trends, local community happenings, literature and popular reading trends in necessary.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Promote ACPL's values and mission. Follow and enforce established library policies and procedures. Work all public service desks at May Memorial Public Library and other branches as needed. Assist with the maintenance of library collections. Assist patrons through reference interactions, reader advisory inquires and in the use of technology and online resources. Increase skills and knowledge through professional reading, workshops and webinars. Make new library cards for patrons. Help patrons locate items (in our library or at a branch) Check materials in and out on patron accounts, empty book returns. Organize returned items in alphabetical or numerical order in preparation to be re-shelved. Shelve library materials. Receive payments for fines and fees. Assist patrons with the Self-Check-out. Answer phones and route calls to appropriate staff. Call and write up holds, pull messages. Take responsibility for the appearance of the library, including the condition of shelves and displays. Other duties as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Strong customer service orientation with the ability to provide respectful, equitable assistance to patrons of all backgrounds. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, internet searching, and social media platforms. Ability to learn and apply library-specific technology, including ILS systems and electronic resources. Creativity in program planning, display design, and patron engagement. Strong problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and accountability. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; bend, reach, squat, and lift up to 40 lbs. Ability to push/pull loaded book carts and access materials on high and low shelves.
