Immediately Job Description Working under the direction of the Library Director, the Assistant may be responsible for one or more of the following:
  • Supervises the library and is responsible for a proper learning environment which stimulates and reinforces the student's easy access to information.
  • Communicates on a regular basis with students and staff regarding ongoing library activities, collection additions, plans, etc.
  • Provides assistance in acquiring and evaluating information resources in all formats; in bringing an awareness of information issues to teachers, administrators, students, and others; and in modeling for students and others strategies for locating, accessing, and evaluating information within and beyond the library media center.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the school collection and external resources.
  • Maintains complete and accurate records of all Library materials.
  • Reads and evaluates reviews and recommends selection of materials; continually reviews the collection for the purpose of removing old or infrequently used materials.
  • Works with students and staff to analyze learning and information needs, to locate and use resources that will meet those needs, and to understand and communicate the information the resources provide. An effective instructor of students, the library assistant is knowledgeable about current research.
  • Promotes lifelong learning by fostering positive attitudes toward libraries and by working to develop students' viewing, listening and critical thinking skills.
  • Coordinates and manages the school book fairs.
  • Assists students with selection, checking in/out of Literary material.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by building principal or his/her designee.
  • Supervision of students and positive classroom management.
Minimum Requirements:
Ability to work effectively with children and peers; ability to take direction and to work independently; background in library education. November 2008 Policy
