Performs skilled administrative support work providing specialized services and programs for the library related to outreach and specialized programs. This position requires consistent weekday attendance, periodic Saturday coverage according to a rotating schedule, and active involvement in community events.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities include:
Responsible for scheduling, planning, publicizing, and presenting adult, teen, and childrens programs including early literacy programs for infants, toddlers, pre-school aged children. Provides technical and reference assistance to children, parents, teachers, and other customers, at outreach locations, the Main Library, the Spangler Branch, community partner facilities, and satellite branch locations. Assists in planning and facilitating Summer Reading Programs, Battle of the Books and other reading promotions. Will deliver library materials (books, A/V materials, and kits) driving a van or the bookmobile/mobile library and provide circulation during community events. Assist customers in how to use the library and its print and electronic resources; assist the public in person, by telephone, or via virtual chat According to the Crew Manual of weeding or the deselection of materials, remove materials from the librarys catalog at the direction of leadership. Process inter-library loan requests Process customer hold requests, and requests for new materials. Education & Experience:
High school diploma or GED and 2 years of experience in customer service, library, or educational setting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of integrated library systems and applications, Microsoft office and/or Google Suite Knowledge of library collection development best practices, materials and research techniques Ability to analyze records and statistics Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment Ability to communicate ideas effectively both orally and in writing Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library customers, library staff, and community partners. Work Location:
This role must work from the location identified at the time of hire with work travel required as needed. Any change of work location, even on a short-term or interim basis, must be reviewed by the Supervisor and HR for approval.
