Job Description

Essential Functions:
Assist patrons with locating and borrowing library materials, using computers, and accessing digital resources. Check in and check out library materials using the library system. Shelve returned materials and maintain order in library collections
Job Duties:
Assist with organizing shelves, shelf reading, and preparing materials for circulation. Monitor and restock supplies at service desks and public areas. Answer phones, answer basic questions, take messages, and route calls or advanced questions to appropriate staff. Help maintain neatness and orderliness of library spaces, including tidying furniture and displays. Process library card registrations and update patron records. Support library events by helping with setup, cleanup, and providing assistance during programs. Prepare returned materials for shelving, including basic cleaning and inspecting for damage. Handle basic clerical tasks such as photocopying, filing, and labeling. Maintain confidentiality of patron records and comply with library policies. Refer complex patron requests to Library Assistants or supervisors. Represent AHJ Regional Library System in a professional and courteous manner. Perform all other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities): High School diploma or equivalent preferred. Prior work or volunteer experience in a library, retail, or office setting is helpful. Basic computer skills and familiarity with using email and internet browsers. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with diverse populations. Ability to learn library software and assist patrons with digital resources. Attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Ability to follow directions and complete repetitive tasks accurately. Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining an orderly environment. Ability to lift books and push carts and perform tasks requiring physical movement. Dependable, punctual, and able to work cooperatively with staff and the public. Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed. Bilingual in English and Spanish or another language commonly spoken in the community is a plus. The Library Clerk is primarily responsible for supporting routine daily tasks and providing basic customer service in the library. This position helps maintain an organized, welcoming environment and assists with fundamental library functions under the supervision of senior staff.
