Job Description
SUMMARY Provide the first interaction for the Library with our patrons. Provide support for the daily activities of the Patron Services Desk and maintain the Library collection to ensure accessibility for all patrons.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Perform all assigned duties associated with the Patron Services Desk during scheduled Library hours to ensure the integrity of the Library and the Integrated Library System (ILS). This includes, but is not limited to, enforcing library procedures, checking in or checking out circulating items as appropriate, answering patrons' directional questions, referring issues to a librarian as appropriate, and following opening and closing procedures.- Trouble shooting basic technology issues in accessing the webprint program.
- Assist in the maintenance of photocopiers and other Library equipment, including adding paper, clearing simple jams and instructing patrons on the proper use of the photocopiers, scanners, and microfiche/film readers.
- Monitor the use of Library equipment such as staplers, whiteboards, book supports and other non-standard items the library purchases for student use, making sure the items are returned in good working condition.
- Update materials by filing pocket parts and looseleaf pages, as assigned by the Patron Services Manager.
- Open and direct all incoming Library mail.
- Shelve books and maintain the shelves to provide high quality service to the Library's patrons.
- Comply with all aspects of the law school's Customer Service Standards.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to frequently lift 25 pounds and transport to shelves in the other areas of the Library. Attention to detail. Proficiency in computer keyboard skills, ability to learn new programs, and some familiarity with Windows-based software, including the Microsoft Office suite or the currently used programs. Ability to organize time, keep accurate records, and communicate well in both verbal and written mediums. The person must have a poised and professional image; strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively and in a timely fashion with all visitors and all members of the South Texas community. Strong service orientation and adhere to the STCLH customer service standards. Enthusiasm, flexibility, and a positive attitude. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and perform multi-tasking duties. Ability to be available to work evenings and weekends. EDUCATION and/orEXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED. Some college credit. Previous library experience and familiarity with legal materials helpful. Customer services experience. Minimum of 0-1 year of experience required.LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with various individuals and groups.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memorandums.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to perform basic math is essential.REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define routine problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions and/or deal with a variety of variables in situations, especially when department head may be out of office or unavailable. Specific vision abilities required by job include close vision to input accurate data and proofread. Distance vision to recognize and assist visitors to the department.WORK ENVIRONMENT
