The Senior Library Assistant will be regularly and independently responsible for a complete variety of specialized and clerical duties related to the functions of the work unit. Regular responsibilities include frequent performance of a variety of specialized duties related to programming in a community library and through community visits, information, circulation and outreach services. Independently plans and presents programs for all ages. As authorized may be responsible for the operation of the branch or department and may direct the work activities and perform assigned activities in the orientation and training of other employees and volunteers for multiple tasks. May be responsible for the opening and closing of the library. The ideal candidate will be flexible and have strong customer service skills and great attention to detail. This position frequently requires these physical abilities: Lift up to 35 pounds Push and pull book carts and book return bins on wheels Bend, kneel, and reach to shelve books Stand for extended periods of time Please see the attached position description for a more detailed list of job duties and requirements. Minimum Education & Experience Requirements To be considered for this opportunity, candidates must meet the minimum qualifications listed below. High School Diploma or GED Three years clerical and/or technical library experience Previous experience as an SLA or with children of more than one year Schedule This recruitment is for future opportunities. When you submit your application, you will have the ability to indicate your location and schedule preferences. Candidates must be able to work 8 hour shifts between 8 am - 8 pm. Weekend and evening availability is required. As opportunities become available, branches and schedules will be shared with those who pass the hiring process. Employees who are hired into positions are assigned predictable work schedules that do not change each week. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this job is $21.24-30.01 per hour. Offers to new employees with 6 months of customer service experience are expected to be at $21.24 per hour. Employees have annual pay increases until they reach the top of the pay grade. This takes an average of 12 years. Fort Vancouver Regional Libraries offer an excellent benefits package including medical and dental insurance benefits, life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment, long term disability benefits, and Washington State PERS retirement. Employees are able to enroll in additional, voluntary life insurance, income protection plans, flexible spending accounts, and health savings accounts. Our employees enjoy 13 paid holidays throughout the year. Vacation leave accrual starts at 6.6 hours per month for part-time; this increases over time based on years of employment. Sick leave accrual is 4.8 hours per month for part-time. We also offer other types of paid time off for situations such as jury duty, bereavement leave, severe weather, and more. Some positions may be eligible for a 5% pay premium on top of the starting pay rate for additional language skills. To qualify for the additional pay, employees must pass a test demonstrating verbal and written fluency in languages commonly used in our communities.
