Job Description

Circulates library materials, maintains, and manages patron records and registrations, and performs financial transactions on library materials. Directs incoming phone calls. Develops and maintains library collections. Efficiently operates automated circulation system to accomplish departmental tasks. Provides high-quality customer service. Performs financial transactions on library materials. The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description . Provides patrons with excellent customer service both in person and by phone. Circulates library materials using charge, discharge, fine, and renewal function of the automated circulation system. Adds, deletes, and maintains patron records using the automated circulation system. Processes daily cash transactions, including payments for lost, damaged, and overdue materials. Reviews new adult fiction materials and services in print, nonprint, and electronic formats. Recommends acquisition of materials for collection development and service enhancements. Recommends and prepares items for discard. Reserves and circulates audiovisual equipment using applicable software and the automated circulation system. Evaluates books, equipment, audiovisual, and other materials for damage, general condition, and cleanliness after each use. Performs and/or delegates repair work. Provides Interlibrary Loan (ILL) services using a variety of specialized software and the automated circulation system. Maintains a database of delinquent accounts. Generates reports and works closely with a collection recovery service to maintain accurate patron financial records. Compiles circulation, patron registration, and library use statistics using automated circulation system statistical reports and spreadsheet software. Guides patrons in making effective use of library facilities and materials. Advises on library regulations and procedures. Creates attractive seasonal and/or informational displays and bulletin boards. Performs related duties as required.
Required Education and Experience:
At least two years of relevant college-level course work or an Associate degree from an accredited college or university in a related field One (1) to three (3) years of experience in a library setting Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities
Required Licenses or Certifications:
Certified Notary Public Knowledge of:
English grammar, spelling, and punctuation Principles and practices of basic bookkeeping Modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment Applicable software applications Library collection Automated circulation systems Interlibrary Loan protocols and procedures Current practices and procedures of modern library operations including cataloging and indexing Audiovisual equipment uses, maintenance, and repair Skill in: Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature Performing basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and ratios Communication, both oral and written Customer service Ability to: Meet schedules and deadlines of the work Understand and carry out oral and written directions Accurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic files Maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries Perform inventory of collections Learn new technologies Search a variety of databases to locate information for patrons Process daily cash transactions Prepare book lists and bibliographies

The position involves medium physical demands, such as exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
