Job Description

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Instructional and Research Services, the Emerging Technologies Librarian will coordinate and develop technology training and learning activities for students that meet the needs of the college. Mastery of Library and Information Science
  • Demonstrates a thorough and accurate knowledge of the field of library and information science including current information organizational trends dependent on emerging technology
  • Connects the ACRL's Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education with related fields and the college curriculum.
  • Stays current in subject matter through professional development, involvement in professional organizations, resource sharing organizations, and attending professional meetings, conferences or workshops. Emerging Technology
  • Manages, designs, and provides student learning experiences associated with college-wide roll-outs and technology upgrades.
  • Develops, delivers, and assesses quality professional development programming, training, micro-courses, and workshops to meet the technology learning needs of students.
  • Provides research, instructional, and consultation services related to emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, machine learning applications, Big Data, and generative AI in academic contexts including citations.
  • Collaborates with faculty to integrate technology advancements into teaching, learning, and research workflows.
  • Understands ethical concerns and considers diverse student audiences
  • Participates in the evaluation of new databases and online content for the college Instruction and Public Service Duties
  • Provides instructional and research support through chat, embedded librarianship, one-on-one appointments, and classroom instruction.
  • Provides high-quality reference services to students, faculty, and staff; assists patrons with complex inquiries, requests, and projects requiring independent judgment and in-depth knowledge in interpreting policies and procedures.
  • Staffs service desks and provides effective circulation services, including reserves and study room scheduling. Collection Development
  • Develops subject resources in assigned areas.
  • Collaborates with departmental faculty to assess effectiveness and strength of collection in assigned subject disciplines.
  • Participates in program accreditation as necessary. Support of College Policies and Procedures
  • Interprets and enforces library and college policies and procedures.
  • Maintains confidentiality of student information according to current state and federal law.
  • Exercises stewardship of college facilities and materials. Participation in College and Division Activities
  • Participates in meetings and events required by the college and library administrators.
  • Responds in a timely fashion to information requests from college and library administrators.
  • Supports both part-time and full-time colleagues.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills in communication with students, colleagues, staff and administrators as an individual or on a team. Contribution to the Growth and Enhancement of College Mission and Programs
  • Maintains familiarity with college goals, mission and long-range plans.
  • Contributes to planning and development processes through appropriate mechanisms and channels.
  • Participates in professional activities that contribute to the educational goals of the college and its constituents.
An ALA accredited master's degree in Library Science or Information Science; one year experience working in a library.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience providing instruction in face-to-face and online environments
  • Demonstrated technology skills with common tools (e.
g., Microsoft suite, Springshare platform)
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:
  • Knowledge in the area of emerging technology trends and basic computer and software skills.
  • Knowledge of instructional technology and pedagogy - including learning styles, distance learning theories and practices, and best practices in teaching and learning.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills, as well as demonstrated project management capabilities.
Working Conditions:
Indoor environment conditions; infrequently lifting and carrying objects up to 10 lbs; infrequently pulling, pushing, reaching overhead, kneeling, stooping, bending at the waist, and climbing several steps; sitting or standing at a service counter or sitting at a desk or workstation using a computer display, keyboard, and mouse with repetitive motions; using the telephone; infrequently traveling to other buildings on campus or to other campuses; exposure to elevated levels of dust from books and other printed materials; evening and weekend work hours.
