Job Description
General Job Brief The Adjunct Professor will teach courses in Mathematics. Instructors are responsible for the preparation and delivery of all course materials including the syllabus, lecture, and other course delivery preparation, as well as keeping attendance records. This role also requires a comprehensive understanding of and commitment to the unique Christian mission and vision of ACU to Transform Culture with Truth, and the ability to advance that mission and vision through classroom instruction and person-to-person mentorship and discipleship. Prerequisite Qualifications Applicants must possess a master's or Ph.D. degree with an emphasis in Mathematics.
At least 3 years of experience teaching in a higher education setting, or similarExperience with various instructional delivery systems including integration of technology into courseworkExcellent interpersonal skills with ability to work both independently and as part of a teamStrong written and oral presentation skillsStrong organizational skillsEvidence of a Christian commitment with interest in and ability to integrate orthodox biblical principles and learning Typical Duties Supervision and instruction of students in classroom and/or lab settingsDevelopment of written syllabi and required course materialsEvaluation of subject matter taught and maintenance of student recordsPreparation and grading of examsMaintaining office hours to advise and assist studentsParticipation in departmental and university-wide meetingsProvide spiritual support and prayer to students and staff Working Conditions Requires the ability to read, write, see, hear, and speak clearlyRequires the ability to stand, walk, bend, reach or sit for long periods of timeRequires working on a computer, PC or laptop; ability to work these and office related equipmentMay be required to lift objects weighing up to 20 pounds Ability and Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documentsAbility to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaintsAbility to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or styleAbility to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topicsAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables in situations where only a limited standardization existsAbility to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusionsAbility to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems Other Duties and Responsibilities Completing other duties and tasks with utmost integrity and professionalism, as directed, and not necessarily mentioned in this description, may be asked on a volunteer basis.
Commitment to the University's faith statement, mission, and purposes; and an active Christian faith. Comfort and familiarity with the practice of praying with and for others, including students, faculty, and fellow University staff. The ability to meaningfully support and encourage students, faculty, and staff from a biblical worldview perspective, using relevant and applicable references from the Old and New Testaments and orthodox Christian writings. Demonstrated alignment with and enthusiastic support for the Christian Mission and Core Commitments of the University, including signing the University's Statement of Faith and Core Commitments annually.
