Job Description Responsibilities include the following: Five middle school math classes All classes meet for 75 minutes every other day Middle school advisor (meet four times per week: two weekly group meeting and attendance at two chapels with advisees) Supervision duty (one week per semester during lunch) Attend weekly grade level meeting Monthly meetings include, but are not exclusive to: Math department Middle school division Experiential education trip chaperone (4-day trip) Chaperone one dance per year All-school faculty staff meetings three times per year Participation in continuing professional development

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or higher At least 3 years of classroom experience Patience and creativity when working collaboratively with a range of constituent groups, including students, families, faculty, staff and administration from diverse backgrounds (religious, ethnic, socio-economic etc.) Strength in both written and oral methods of communication The teacher should demonstrate a willingness to grow and evolve as an educator and maintain a flexible attitude Course Descriptions Pre-Algebra & Pre- Algebra Honors This course is designed for students who have demonstrated exceptional mastery of sixth-grade mathematics. The year begins with a brief review of arithmetic operations, properties of numbers, and number theory using whole numbers, decimals, and fractions. Students will then explore topics such as linear equations, coordinate graphing, square roots, exponents, and translating word problems into algebraic expressions. They will also tackle multi-step equations. Students are encouraged to apply these concepts by interpreting real-world data into mathematical expressions and analyzing results in context. Projects, group activities, and computer software will be used to enhance and illustrate the course material. In the honors version, topics are explored in greater depth, and assessments challenge students to synthesize information and apply critical thinking to answer open-ended questions. Algebra 1 This one-year foundational course is designed to cover all key aspects of Algebra I. Students will delve into concepts such as functions, systems of linear equations, powers and exponents, quadratic equations, factoring polynomials, and radicals. They will also solve multi-step equations and inequalities, including those involving absolute value. In the honors version of the course, topics are explored in greater depth, and assessments feature problems that challenge students to synthesize concepts and make conjectures. The course emphasizes collaborative activities that use an abstract approach to problem-solving. Throughout, the curriculum fosters connections both within mathematics and across other disciplines, integrating real-world applications and promoting both independent and cooperative learning.
