Job Description

From the top of Mount St. Alban, St. Albans School looks up to the Washington National Cathedral and out to the United States Capitol. Our location serves as an embodiment and constant reminder of the School's motto: Pro Ecclesia et Pro Patria , for Church and for Country. The School was established in 1909 by the Protestant Episcopal Cathedral Foundation (PECF). Our mission is to prepare boys in grades 4 through 12 to develop and use their spiritual, intellectual, artistic, and physical gifts not for themselves alone, but in service of the greater community. Job Description Reporting to the Head of the Lower School, St. Albans School of Washington, DC, is seeking a fourth-grade homeroom teacher to begin in Fall 2026. The Lower School's collaborative team-teaching approach, particularly in C Form, allows for flexible student groupings and draws upon the individual strengths of each educator, providing students with a supportive and enriching introduction to the rigorous academic environment of St. Albans. Specifically, areas of responsibility will include: Leading a homeroom of approximately fourteen fourth-grade boys. Teaching language arts, mathematics, and geography; Collaborating with the Form C specials teachers (Spanish, science, music, art, and physical education). Teaching with rigor, creativity, imagination, and vigor; Demonstrate an understanding of the developmental needs of young students; Demonstrate skill in classroom leadership and planning Favoring the learning process over performance; A willingness to be an active member of the Lower School and the school community. Other duties may include coaching in the athletic department, working in the school's study skills program, or supervising some other afternoon activity. The position may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
