TRIO Programs:
The Upward Bound Project EDGE (Exploration and Determination Guarantees Excellence) program is designed to provide opportunities for fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The goal is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education. Our goal is to recruit participants into the Upward Bound program, retain them, graduate them, and get them ready for post
  • secondary education, admittance and graduation.
The Opportunity :
Project EDGE is seeking a Math Instructor at the high school level to work with Project EDGE (Edgewater High School) scholars for the six (6) week summer program (June to July) to promote the total growth of the students as a primary objective, at Edgewater High School and the University of Central Florida. The Instructor is responsible for implementing dynamic, engaging, and empowering academic courses. This is a unique job opportunity for people who enjoy working with students and who have experience in teaching Math. They will work up to 24 hours a week @ $30.00 per hour, Monday through Thursday with occasional Fridays for trips.
Responsibilities:
Teaches Math instruction to high school students. Provides classroom supervision during instruction time. Helps co-teacher during their instruction time. Monitors and keeps daily log of student attendance, behavior, and academic development. Implements engaging and hands-on lessons to facilitate teaching and learning. Provides feedback to students on assignments. Assist in supervision at program events, activities and lunch. Must be available to chaperone at least 1 trip. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree or Master's + 1 yr. experience working with high school students, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6) ,
Preferred Qualifications :
Ability to develop and teach high school level classes. Experience creating reports and PowerPoint presentations. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Comfortable speaking in front of groups. Ability to work a flexible schedule. Ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively with a positive attitude. Possesses strong organizational and time-management skills. Experience working with students from various demographics and economic backgrounds. Current FL teacher certification in appropriate subject.
