Summit is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Mathematics Teacher to support students in an alternative setting across a range of high school math courses. This position focuses on delivering high-quality, rigorous, and responsive instruction that meets students where they are, while supporting growth in both foundational skills and advanced mathematical reasoning. The ideal candidate will foster a growth mindset, ensuring all students, regardless of their starting point, can make meaningful progress toward mastering content and meeting graduation requirements. In this role, you won't just be teaching math concepts; you will be helping students build confidence, think critically, solve problems creatively, and develop the skills necessary for success in post-secondary pathways, including careers, training programs, and college.

Required Skills:
Strong instructional planning and delivery aligned to district curriculum and learning goals. Ability to use assessment data to guide instruction and support student growth. Effective classroom management that fosters a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment. Strong communication and relationship-building skills with students, families, and colleagues. Ability to collaborate professionally and engage in continuous learning and improvement.
Essential Functions Instructional Design & Delivery:
Guides student learning by delivering high-quality instruction aligned to classroom missions and learning goals, and uses assessment data to adjust teaching and support the academic growth of all students, including those with IEPs or 504 plans. Utilizes evidence-based practices and instructional resources to maximize student learning in alignment with state and district standards.
Collaboration & Relationship Building:
Partners with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators to foster positive relationships, demonstrate leadership, and promote a culture of high expectations.
Student Learning & Assessment:
Guides student learning by aligning instruction with classroom goals and learning objectives, implementing recognition strategies, and using assessment data to evaluate performance and continuously improve instruction.
Classroom Management & Environment:
Maintains classroom structure, routines, and behavioral expectations to foster a positive, safe, and orderly learning environment, and models professional and ethical behavior in accordance with district and state standards.
Communication:
Maintains timely, professional, and transparent communication with students, parents, guardians, colleagues, and administrators. Provides updates on student progress, instructional programs, and classroom activities to foster strong partnerships and community engagement.
Professional Responsibilities, Compliance & Development:
Maintains accurate documentation to support student progress and legal compliance; implements required accommodations and services; and adheres to all applicable federal, state, and district laws and policies. Actively participates in meetings and professional development to enhance knowledge and refine instructional practices while supporting a safe learning environment.
Attendance & Reliability:
Demonstrates consistent and reliable attendance and punctuality in alignment with district expectations, recognizing the importance of being present for students. Maintains instructional continuity and strong relationships by ensuring students experience consistency, support, and stability in their learning environment. Adherence to

Adheres to the Iowa Teaching Standards and the Iowa Ethical Standards for Educators by demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct in all instructional and professional practices. Upholds student confidentiality, maintains appropriate boundaries, and acts in the best interest of students, families, and the school community. Engages in reflective practice and continuous improvement consistent with state expectations for effective educators. Other Functions Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned. Provide excellent customer service and assistance to all employees, fostering a welcoming and approachable atmosphere. Work efficiently and independently with minimal supervision. Demonstrate respect and professionalism in all interactions with colleagues, students, and families. Use positive and professional communication in all interactions. Working Environment Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
The usual and customary methods of performing the position functions require the following physical demands: lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, reaching, driving, standing and walking. Working conditions may include extreme temperatures and humidity. Hazards may include exposure to communicable diseases. This position requires one to maintain emotional control under stress.
