Position Summary:
The Middle School Math Interventionist is a full-time educator who provides targeted, data-driven math instruction to support students who are not yet meeting grade-level expectations, while also serving as a key instructional leader within the mathematics department. This role blends direct student intervention, enrichment instruction, and departmental leadership to strengthen tiered instructional supports across grades 6-8. The Math Interventionist will collaborate closely with teachers, instructional leaders, and administrators to analyze multiple data sources (e.g., i-Ready, MCAS, and common assessments), inform instructional practices, and improve student outcomes. This position requires deep content expertise in middle school mathematics, a strong understanding of MTSS, and the ability to support the diverse needs of all students.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Responsibilities Provide targeted small-group math intervention for students in Grade 6 who are performing below grade level, using evidence-based strategies aligned to Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. Teach an 8th grade math extension/enrichment course as part of the school's exploratory rotation, designed to promote problem-solving, critical thinking, and mathematical curiosity for all students. Progress monitors student growth and adjusts instruction based on data and student needs. Differentiate instruction to meet a range of learners, including students with IEPs, 504 plans, and multilingual learners. Data & Assessment Leadership Lead the organization and analysis of school wide math data, including: i-Ready diagnostic and growth data MCAS achievement and Student Growth Percentile (SGP) data Common formative and benchmark assessments Collaborate with grade-level and content teams to: Identify trends and instructional gaps Group students for targeted support Develop responsive intervention and enrichment plans Support the development of data protocols and systems to improve consistency and clarity across the department. Department & Instructional Leadership Serve as a content expert in middle school mathematics, supporting colleagues with: Curriculum planning and alignment Instructional strategies and differentiation Use of data to inform instruction Collaborate with administration and instructional leadership to: Analyze school wide math performance Develop action plans to improve outcomes Present and communicate data to staff and stakeholders Support the implementation of MTSS structures within the math department. Collaboration & Professional Practice Participate actively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), common planning time, and data meetings. Partner with special education staff, EL educators, and counselors to ensure coordinated student support. Model reflective practice and a commitment to continuous improvement.
