Qualifications:
Certified Elementary Education, Reading, or Special Education Previous experience in elementary education Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check (C.O.R.I.) and fingerprint check
Reports To:
Building Principal
Job Goal:
The Title One Tutor will provide reading, writing, and mathematics instruction to an identified at-risk population. The tutor will work with the principal and the classroom teachers to design and teach intervention lessons that meet the specific needs of small groups or individual students.
Work Year:
These are one year positions with continued employment for subsequent years dependent on funding availability.
Performance Responsibilities:
Provide intervention services to at-risk children in literacy and math in order to support academic growth. Participate with principal and the classroom teachers to design appropriate academic supports to meet student needs. Assist in administering appropriate testing of students and the analysis of results. Meet with principal and classroom teachers to share observations of student performance and progress. Maintain a database for tracking and assessing interventions and student progress. Provide direct Tier II services within the classroom and/or small group settings. Collaborate with colleagues to improve curriculum and instructional effectiveness for all students. Participate in professional growth opportunities Perform other tasks as assigned by the Principal or the Superintendent. Essential Functions of the
Job:
Must possess the ability to: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with school personnel and students. Communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written form. Use appropriate tiered intervention programs in reading, writing, and math to instruct at risk students. Ensure those strategies used support Melrose's curricula goals.

Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong organizational and planning skills. Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups. Knowledge of curriculum and instructional best practices. Willingness to work a modified/flexible schedule.
Physical and Environmental Demands:
The physical and environmental demands described here are representatives of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to work in a normal classroom and school building environment. Ability to move freely about the building to perform duties with students and teachers. Ability to utilize computers and other administrative technologies appropriate to the position.
