ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
KCS is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) multi-service organization founded in 1973 and supported by government agencies, foundations, corporations, and individuals. Through programs in social services, education, culture, public health, and workforce development, KCS serves the Korean and greater community across New York and New Jersey.
ABOUT THE POSITION
The NJ Education Department is seeking a dynamic and hands-on part-time Elementary Math Instructor to teach elementary students (Kindergarten - 5th Grade) during an 8-week summer camp in Tenafly, NJ (June 29, 2026 - August 21, 2026). The instructor will introduce foundational mathematical skills using interactive and engaging methods to strengthen students' numeracy, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. The goal is to ignite curiosity, encourage critical thinking, and develop problem-solving skills while ensuring a fun, safe, and inclusive learning environment. The instructor will teach twice a week for two hours per day.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and implement age-appropriate math lessons focused on arithmetic, problem-solving, and logical reasoning. Utilize engaging hands-on activities, games, and real-world applications to enhance student learning. If applicable, introduce and teach Abacus-based mental math techniques to improve students' speed and accuracy in calculations. Adapt lessons to accommodate different learning styles and abilities. Create lesson plans that accommodate students who are in different grade levels in one classroom. Foster a supportive, inclusive, and structured classroom environment where students feel encouraged to explore math concepts. Set up and organize necessary materials and equipment before class, ensuring all supplies are ready. Provide individualized support and feedback to help students strengthen their math skills. Integrate technology, manipulatives, and visual aids to make learning interactive. Guide students in a final math project or challenge at the end of the program (if applicable). Maintain a safe, structured, and engaging classroom environment, ensuring proper handling of materials. Ensure proper classroom setup and cleanup before and after each session. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Elementary Education, STEM Elementary Education, or a related field required. Teaching license required. Master's degree preferred.
Experience:
Minimum one year of classroom experience in math elementary education.
Math Proficiency:
Strong foundation in elementary math concepts, arithmetic strategies, and problem-solving techniques.
Classroom Management:
Ability to maintain an engaging, structured, and inclusive classroom environment of up to 20 students without an aide.
Technology Integration:
Familiarity with digital math resources, educational apps, or interactive tools is a plus.
Language Ability:
Must be able to speak, read, write English fluently.
Availability & Commitment:
Must be able to commute to Tenafly, NJ and commit to the entire duration of the 8-week summer camp.
