Salary Range:
$60,000 - $65,000 + School Description Eugenio María de Hostos Charter School (EMHCS) is a K-12 school serving over 1,000 students. EMHCS offers a dual language program at the elementary campus. Summary of Position The Instructional Coach - Mathematics is responsible for strengthening instructional practice, improving student achievement in mathematics, and building teacher capacity across grade levels. The Math Instructional Coach serves as the content expert and collaborates closely with teachers and school leadership to ensure rigorous, standards-aligned instruction that prepares students for success on state assessments and college- and career-ready pathways. This role requires deep expertise in mathematics pedagogy, curriculum design, instructional coaching, and data-driven decision-making. Essential Functions Instructional Coaching & Mentoring Provide job-embedded coaching through classroom observation, feedback cycles, modeling, and co-planning. Support teachers in developing effective lesson plans aligned to standards and mathematical best practices. Mentor new and developing teachers to strengthen instructional delivery and classroom management. Conduct classroom walkthroughs and provide specific, actionable feedback. Model lessons and co-teach to demonstrate effective mathematical discourse and problem- solving strategies. Curriculum Development & Alignment Write, revise, and refine pacing guides and curriculum maps for Mathematics. Ensure curriculum alignment with state standards and state assessments. Align instructional tasks, performance assessments, and daily learning objectives to exam expectations. Develop scope and sequence documents to ensure vertical and horizontal alignment across grade levels. Support teachers in unpacking standards and identifying priority mathematical concepts. Mathematics Content Expertise Serve as the content expert in mathematical practices, conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and application. Support implementation of research-based strategies for mathematics instruction. Guide teachers in facilitating mathematical discourse and student-centered problem- solving. Support differentiation strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners, including intervention and enrichment. Guide integrating real-world applications and higher-order thinking tasks. Professional Development Design and facilitate high-quality professional development sessions in Mathematics. Develop a comprehensive August Professional Development Plan for teachers focused on curriculum implementation and instructional best practices. Lead ongoing professional learning cycles aligned to school improvement goals. Support teachers in implementing strategies introduced during professional development. Participate in school-based and external professional development opportunities. Data-Driven Instruction Lead and facilitate Mathematics data meetings with grade-level and department teams. Analyze student performance data from formative assessments, benchmarks, and state exams. Support teachers in developing targeted action plans based on data trends. Monitor progress toward school-wide mathematics achievement goals. Ensure instructional adjustments are implemented based on ongoing analysis. Collaboration & Leadership Work closely with school administration to support instructional priorities and strategic planning. Participate in leadership meetings and school improvement planning. Support initiatives that strengthen instructional rigor and student achievement in mathematics. Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and high expectations. Attend meetings and fulfill professional responsibilities after school as needed. Requirements Ability to manage and lead staff and support student needs. Experience and ability to work with small or large groups. Must have excellent communication skills. Must show strong observational skills. Additional Roles and Responsibilities Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor. Exempt positions are to attend their regular school-year schedule, which may include some evenings, weekends, and/or summer responsibilities for training and planning.
Education / Experience
/ Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Education or related field (Master's preferred). Valid teaching certification in Mathematics. Demonstrated expertise in mathematics instruction and curriculum development. Strong knowledge of state standards and assessment frameworks. Proven experience in instructional coaching or teacher leadership. Experience leading professional development for educators. Preferred Experience with curriculum writing and pacing development. Training in research-based mathematics instructional practices. Experience working with diverse student populations. Physical Demands This position does require occasional standing and squatting, frequent sitting, and lifting to 10 lbs.
