Position Overview:
Hathaway Brown School is seeking a knowledgeable and student-centered Upper School Math Teacher to serve as a long-term substitute. This position will support students in grades 9-12 in our all-girls school environment, delivering high-quality instruction and maintaining continuity of learning during a faculty leave. This role provides an opportunity to engage and inspire students in mathematics while contributing to a collaborative and dynamic academic community. The anticipated dates for this position are August 20, 2026 through November 13, 2026.
Key Responsibilities:
Teach Upper School mathematics courses: Honors Precalculus AB and standard Calculus. Cover Math lab 1-2 times per week and attend departmental meetings. Implement lesson plans and curriculum aligned with department goals Foster a supportive and engaging classroom environment that encourages critical thinking and problem-solving Assess student progress and provide timely, constructive feedback Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and assignments Collaborate with department faculty and administrators to ensure continuity of instruction Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues Create an inclusive classroom environment that values diverse perspectives and promotes belonging
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field required; Master's preferred Prior teaching experience at the high school level preferred Strong content knowledge in high school mathematics Ability to engage students and adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs Excellent communication, organization, and classroom management skills Collaborative approach and willingness to work within a team environment Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment
Language Skills :
Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking; capable of interpreting documents and communicating effectively with parents and staff.
Reasoning Ability :
Skilled in problem-solving, data collection, and drawing valid conclusions.
Physical Demands :
Regular activities include standing, walking, sitting, manual tasks, and communication. Frequent reaching, stooping, kneeling, or crawling; occasional climbing or balancing. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally. Reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities.
Work Environment:
Typically moderate noise levels; accommodations provided as needed.
