Only candidates whose residential address is in Iowa will be considered for this position. Though classes take place online, the instructor must be able to occasionally travel to a Kirkwood location (Coralville, Cedar Rapids, and/or Washington) for meetings or student support. Under limited supervision, the instructor is responsible for teaching non-credit English Language and Literacy (ELL) courses to students enrolled in Kirkwood's Adult Education and Literacy Programs. Instruction takes place online via Zoom, though there might be opportunities to teach in Coralville, Cedar Rapids, or Washington if there are openings at those locations. The instructor also assists students in transitioning from ELL courses to Kirkwood related work training and higher education opportunities in collaboration with other Kirkwood staff. Classes are held Monday through Thursday for two hours each day. The session dates for the 2026/2027 Program Year are: 1. Session 1: July 8- September 10 2. Session 2: September 28

- June 3 Currently there is 1 opening to teach a Low Intermediate morning class (9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Monday through Thursday).

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist students with coursework in a variety of formats including individualized instruction, computer assisted instruction, large group courses, and other methods. Collaborate with fellow learning center instructors on curriculum development, student intake/advising, and staff development activities. Conduct CASAS assessments for eligible students. Perform other related work duties as assigned. Provide contextualized, scaffolder, interactive instruction that includes cooperative learning tasks and implements ELL college and career readiness andCASAS ELL
standards. Track attendance daily and submit reports. Respond in a timely matter to communications and requests from program director and coordinator. Participate in weekly team meetings and ongoing professional development opportunities.PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

Position involves working in an office setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution or will have one by June 1, 2026.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS
: Prior experience teaching adult ELL/ABE learners or working with adult immigrants Prior experience teaching ELL or foreign language at any age Bachelor's or master's degree in TESOL, Education, Foreign Language Teaching or related field TESOL training/certification preferred, such as K-12 certification in ELL, bachelors or graduate studies inTESOL, TEFL
