Position:
Math Teacher, School Year 26-27 Chesapeake Bay Governor's School (CBGS) is a regional program for high ability 10th-12th grade students in the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck region of Virginia. CBGS serves approximately 240 students from 14 counties through a shared-day program with the students' home district high schools. CBGS faculty provide direct instruction each school day from 8:00
  • 10:30 AM and are expected to plan collaboratively with colleagues, provide extra student support in individual or small group tutoring (sometimes traveling to the students' home high schools for meetings), and chaperone occasional weekend field experiences (a hallmark of CBGS).
This position will teach the following anticipated courses at the Bowling Green campus 16221 Richmond Tpke, Bowling Green, VA 22427: Advanced Mathematics with Algebra II, Trigonometry, and PreCalculus.
QUALIFICATIONS
Virginia collegiate or postgraduate professional license or eligibility for a provisional license Master's degree with sufficient graduate credits in the content area (CBGS students receive dual enrollment credits through Rappahannock Community College.) Gifted education endorsement Teaching experience (or equivalent professional experience)
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
Relating positively to high school students, with particular emphasis on the needs of gifted and high achieving learners Planning and delivering effective lessons that meet the individual needs, interests and abilities of students Creating a classroom environment that is conducive to learning; communicating objectives effectively to students; establishing high expectations for academic success and classroom behavior; employing a variety of instructional techniques and blended learning strategies; and assessing the accomplishments of students on a regular basis Communicating professionally and effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and parents/guardians Participating in faculty and/or department meetings, professional learning sessions, and weekend field experience trips with our students
Physical Requirements:
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires walking and occasionally requires sitting and repetitive motions; work requires close vision, distance vision, depth perception and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, playground, classroom, light traffic).
