Principal Position Summary Rutland City Public Schools is seeking an energetic, dedicated, and student-centered educator to serve as an Academic Interventionist. This role is ideal for an educator who is passionate about closing learning gaps, using data to drive instruction, and making a meaningful impact on student achievement. The Academic Interventionist will play a key role within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), providing targeted Tier II and intensive Tier III instruction in both English Language Arts and Mathematics. Working as part of a collaborative instructional team, the interventionist will support students who require additional academic assistance to meet grade-level expectations and build foundational skills. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to equity, continuous improvement, and student growth, along with a genuine interest in helping every learner succeed. Responsibilities Provide targeted (Tier II) and intensive (Tier III) intervention instruction in reading and/or mathematics Design and deliver small-group and individualized instruction based on student needs Use assessment data (universal screening, progress monitoring, and diagnostic tools) to identify student needs, group students, and adjust instruction Monitor student progress regularly and maintain accurate records of interventions and outcomes Collaborate with classroom teachers, special educators, and support staff to align interventions with core instruction Participate in MTSS team meetings, problem-solving discussions, and data review cycles Support the implementation of evidence-based instructional practices and intervention programs Communicate effectively with staff and families regarding student progress and instructional strategies Assist in developing and implementing intervention plans for students requiring additional academic support Contribute to a positive, inclusive learning environment that supports student engagement and growth Use basic computer or technology tools to support classroom documentation, communication, and program needs. Knowledge/Skils Applicants with experience or knowledge in the following areas will be favorably considered Experience working within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework Background in delivering academic interventions for struggling learners Familiarity with progress monitoring tools and data systems Training or experience in evidence-based literacy and/or math intervention programs Ability to collaborate effectively within professional learning communities (PLCs) or instructional teams Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field, required. Master's degree, preferred. Valid Vermont Teaching License (or ability to obtain), required with endorsement in one or more of the following areas: Reading Specialist Math Specialist Special Education Demonstrated knowledge of: English Language Arts and/or Mathematics instruction Assessment tools and data analysis to inform instruction Differentiated instruction and intervention strategies Physical Requirements Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods and move throughout the facility as required to perform job duties Ability to sit, bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive motions related to teaching tasks Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to approximately 25 pounds Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and families in person and through various communication methods Ability to operate standard classroom and office equipment, including computers and instructional technology Ability to maintain regular attendance Schedule and duties may vary based on assignment and school needs Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
