About the Position:
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Applied Mathematics, beginning Fall 2026. We particularly welcome candidates with research interests in numerical methods for the optimal control of partial differential equations.
This is a fixed-term appointment, with the possibility of renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance and the availability of funding. Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. in applied mathematics, with an emphasis on computational methods, or a closely related field, by the start date.
The successful candidate will pursue an active research program, collaborate with faculty, and seek external funding. The position includes a reduced teaching load.
Qualifications
Applicants should demonstrate expertise in at least two of the following areas: numerical analysis of partial differential equations, optimization, numerical linear algebra, and continuum mechanics.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has active research areas across applied mathematics and statistics. UMBC has both Applied Mathematics and Statistics PhD and masters programs serving the Baltimore-Washington region.

Salary Range:
$55,000 - $68,000, commensurate with experience and job specifications. The above salary ranges represent the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
