Job Description

The University of Virginia's (UVA) Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost invites applications for a Lecturer in the University Career Center's Internship Placement Program (IPP) (https://career.virginia.edu/Students/Prepare/Internships/InternshipPlacementProgram) . The UVA Career Center engages and supports students in the discovery and pursuit of meaningful lives by offering customized coaching and advising, fostering tailored connections with employers, and creating innovative programming. The Lecturer in the IPP will teach courses that connect students to quality professional internships with public and private sector organizations in Charlottesville, as well as remote internships located in other areas. This role includes teaching UNST 3910 and UNST 3920, one-credit undergraduate courses that provide structured reflection opportunities for students on topics such as self, teams, leadership, and organizations. As part of the courses, students gain a deeper understanding of their internship experience, engage in projects and activities, and explore their evolving goals, interests, values, and talents. The number of sections will be determined by student enrollment per semester; there are currently five sections of
UNST 3910
scheduled for the Fall 2027 semester this Lecturer will be assigned to teach. If some sections are not offered, additional administrative or course development duties may be assigned. Other internship-related courses may also be assigned, as directed by the UVA Career Center, but would not exceed 14 credits across the Fall and Spring semesters. This is an Academic General Faculty, tenure ineligible, part-time (0.5 FTE) Lecturer appointment. The nine-month, benefit-eligible appointment is for the period August 25, 2026 through May 24, 2027, and may be renewed based on performance, program success and funding. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position will report to the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, with assignment of duties primarily determined by the University Career Center.
  • Minimum qualifications include the following:
  • + A Master's degree in an area related to the course topics listed above. + Prior experience with career-related educational services. + Demonstrated evidence of teaching effectiveness at a college or university level. + Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal and teaching skills, and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Competitive candidates will possess some, though not necessarily all, of the following preferred qualifications:
  • + A terminal degree in an area related to the course topics listed above.
+ Experience with the academic mission of research-intensive universities. + Knowledge of current research and issues in career development and/or post-secondary education. + A record of scholarship in career development and/or teaching and learning. + Experience with course delivery and/or instructional technologies. + Making classrooms inclusive and welcoming to diverse student populations.
