Assistant Hours:
5-15 hours per week (based on a 1:12 student-to-staff ratio) Job Summary The 21st Century Assistant is a vital member of the after-school program team, working 5-15 hours per week depending on program needs. The Assistant ensures daily on-site support by helping leaders with homework and math, reading, and science educational activities. They contribute to weekly lesson planning, provide diverse enrichment and recreational opportunities, and assist with administrative tasks such as daily reporting and record-keeping. This role fosters a safe, engaging, and educational environment for students.
Reports to:
Site Coordinator or designee Knowledge and Skills Required Knowledge of child and youth learning activities, including academic support, enrichment, and cultural programming. Familiarity with student supervision techniques and behavior management strategies. Proficiency in basic computer applications and technology tools. Strong English language skills, including grammar, spelling, and written communication. Ability to work effectively with students of various ages, abilities, and backgrounds. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Capacity to build and maintain positive relationships with program staff, school personnel, and students. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist leaders in facilitating homework and activities in math, reading, and science. Supervise and actively engage with students during both indoor and outdoor activities. Support students in developing interpersonal skills, responsibility, and problem-solving abilities. Help create and implement weekly lesson plans tailored to student needs and interests. Provide support for diverse enrichment and recreational activities that enhance student learning. Assist with daily administrative tasks, including reporting and record-keeping. Maintain a safe, healthy, and sanitary environment for classroom and play activities. Monitor student health and administer basic first aid when required. Qualifications Enrolled In High School/ High School Diploma or GED Previous experience working with students in after-school programs or similar settings is preferred. Ability to follow daily schedules and complete tasks as assigned by the Lead Teacher or Site Coordinator.
ADA requirements:
Ability to move around classroom and outdoor areas to supervise and engage with students effectively. Capacity to lift and move program materials and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
