Randolph School is situated on two campuses within a mile of each other in Jones Valley on the southeastern side of Huntsville, Alabama, which was named in the U.S. News & World Report's list of best cities in the United States to live. Greengate School at Randolph serves students in grades 1-6 using an Orton-Gillingham approach to provide a specialized program of instruction that meets individual learning needs, while also offering students with dyslexia a full complement of co-curricular and extra-curricular school experiences. Greengate, one of 18 schools in the nation accredited by the Orton-Gillingham Academy and the only such school in Alabama, has educated children with dyslexia and related language-learning differences since 2002. Randolph School is seeking a lower-school teacher within our Greengate Division to teach third grade. The primary responsibilities consist of teaching language arts, math, science, social studies, and social-emotional skills in a self-contained lower school class of approximately 15 students with a co-teacher during math and English Language Arts instructional time. The teacher in this position will work closely with grade-level teams and dyslexia specialists.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
Plan, supervise, and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum following the philosophy of Greengate School and Randolph School and in collaboration with other grade-level teachers and specialists, keeping in mind the ability and special requirements of students Be knowledgeable about children's social, emotional, and cognitive development Honor individual learning needs and capacities in the classroom, adapting teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests Demonstrate a history of collaborative relationships with parents and colleagues Maintain an effective, safe, inviting, well-organized and inventoried classroom Effectively monitor and manage student learning using a variety of assessment methods to evaluate student progress Adequately evaluate student progress in a fully accommodated program, and communicate progress regularly to parents Demonstrate effective written and oral communication (parent conferences, written correspondence including narrative reports) Create a supportive and inclusive environment and develop respectful relationships with students by using conflict resolution and problem-solving techniques within the classroom Integrate technology appropriately in the classroom
Qualifications:
B.S. or B.A. in Elementary Education required, master's degree preferred Minimum 2-3 years of experience as an elementary teacher, co-teacher, or teaching assistant Completion of the Orton- Gillingham Classroom Educator and Associate level training (70 hrs total), with the endorsement from the OGA Fellow, within first year Knowledge of and/or experience working with dyslexic students preferred Student-centered, collaborative, approachable, actively involved in full program of the school Interest and ability to contribute to our clubs, athletics, and extracurricular programs is an additional consideration.
