This position may become full time in the future. Old Orchard offers a supportive teaching environment within a close-knit community known for academic excellence, student-centered instruction, and strong faculty and staff retention. Position Summary The Part Time Middle School Math Teacher teaches students in Grades 6-8 , supporting learners from foundational skills through Algebra 1 and Geometry-level coursework. Students develop creative and rigorous problem-solving habits in both theoretical and real-world contexts; learn to communicate and critique mathematical reasoning; and collect, analyze, and interpret data. Equally important, we want every student to see themselves as a capable and confident mathematician. A growth mindset is a key tenet across all subjects at Old Orchard School.
Additional Responsibilities:
Quarterly Elective Teacher, Advisory Leader Compensation Salary range: $45-$60 per hour averaging 20 hours per week, commensurate with experience and qualifications Primary Responsibilities
  • Plan and teach two math classes daily for Grades 6-8, along with a middle school elective course
  • Partner with the Middle School Lead Math Teacher to plan lessons and support students
  • Build and sustain a positive, inclusive classroom culture rooted in curiosity, effort, and perseverance
  • Participate in the annual math placement assessment process and communicate results to students and families
  • Proactively communicate with students and families regarding individualized plans to address skill gaps and promote growth
  • Assess student learning and provide timely feedback; submit grades and narrative comments according to school expectations and deadlines
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date information systems, including class calendars, gradebooks, and online course sites
  • Serve as an advisor to a small group of Middle School students throughout the school year
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues on grade-level, Middle School, and schoolwide initiatives
  • When possible, participate in and contribute to the broader Middle School and school community (events, meetings, committees, etc.) Core Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree and/or teaching credential preferred
  • At least two years of math teaching experience, ideally at the middle school or early high school level
  • Deep content knowledge across the range taught (Grades 6-8 through Algebra 1/Geometry-level topics), including the ability to identify and address gaps in prior learning
  • Demonstrated experience differentiating instruction for a wide range of learners and math identities
  • Strong understanding of effective pedagogy, including thoughtful use of educational technology tools and platforms
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative working style
  • Evidence of ongoing professional learning and reflective practice Preferred Qualifications
  • Interest in leading or supporting math-related extracurriculars (e.g., math club, competitions, enrichment)
