As a Student Support Staff member, you will play an essential role in supporting daily program activities, building positive relationships with students, and helping create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where every child can succeed. Student Support Staff work closely with Lead Staff to provide engaging academic, recreational, and enrichment experiences while supporting students' social, emotional, and behavioral growth. This position includes supervising students, assisting with classroom activities, maintaining program organization, and helping ensure the successful implementation of high-quality after school programming. Student Support Staff work with all students while providing additional support to students with special needs, English learners, and those who benefit from individualized assistance. Key Responsibilities Assist Lead Staff in implementing daily lesson plans, enrichment activities, academic support, and structured play. Supervise and actively engage with students in classroom, playground, and outdoor settings. Create a safe, welcoming, and relationship-centered environment where every student feels included. Build positive relationships with students while modeling kindness, respect, and professionalism. Support positive classroom management using restorative and positive behavior strategies aligned with school expectations. Provide individualized support to students, including those with special needs and diverse learning needs. Assist with classroom setup, cleanup, organization, and the care of program supplies and materials. Review and stay informed of daily updates, announcements, and communications from Program Leadership. Maintain attendance, daily logs, incident reports, and other required program documentation, and communicate student needs, incidents, and concerns to Lead Staff and Program Leadership. Collaborate with Lead Staff and school personnel to ensure smooth transitions, student safety, and high-quality programming. Respond appropriately to behavioral challenges and emergencies following school and program procedures. Follow all school, program, and safety policies and procedures. Education and Experience Required High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience working with children or youth in an educational, childcare, recreation, or youth development setting preferred. Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. Ability to build positive relationships with students and work effectively as part of a team. Must be reliable, flexible, proactive, and committed to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and supportive program environment. Ability to accept feedback, ask for support when needed, and contribute to a collaborative team culture. Preferred Knowledge and Experience One or more years of experience working with TK-8th grade students. College coursework or a degree in Education, Child Development, Psychology, Recreation, or a related field is preferred. Bilingual skills (especially Spanish, Tagalog, or Vietnamese) are highly desirable. Experience working with students with special needs, English learners, and diverse learning needs is preferred.
