Job Description

Telluride Mountain School - Telluride , a unique independent school nestled in the San Juan Mountains serving students Pre-School through 8th grade, is seeking a part-time Middle School Humanities Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year . At Telluride Mountain School, we understand that success is not only measured by grades in the classroom. We challenge our students to explore their environment and seek out meaningful experiences outside--which is why you will often find us on the ski slopes, hiking the San Juans, or exploring the world through our experiential education trips. We also recognize and embrace the importance of developing strong relationships among teachers and peers, and encourage our students to build lasting relationships that strengthen a collective sense of belonging. So while academics are important here, we believe in a holistic approach to education--one that involves fostering creativity, curiosity, and meaningful connections. The Middle School Humanities (English & History) Teacher will teach and inspire students in 5th through 8th grades in developing strong reading, writing, discussion, and critical thinking skills, while deepening their understanding of history, literature, and the human experience. Through engaging, inquiry-based instruction, this teacher will help students become curious learners, thoughtful analysts, and effective communicators who can make meaningful connections across disciplines and beyond the classroom.

Teaching Duties:
Teach two (2) sections of humanities (English/history) for middle school students in grades 5-8 Develop students' abilities as readers, writers, speakers, researchers, and critical thinkers through the study of literature, history, and the humanities Foster students' interest and enthusiasm for the humanities through engaging instruction, discussion, analytical writing, immersive projects, experiential learning trips, and cross-curricular programming Support students in making meaningful connections across disciplines and between their learning and the wider world Support the Experiential and Outdoor Education Programs, including but not limited to Fall and Spring Trips - opportunity to participate in and accompany students & teachers on these programs Opportunities to participate in Winter Sports programming Develop humanities curriculum and maintain humanities resources, curriculum guides, and curriculum maps Maintain consistent student records on Blackbaud, including gradebook, trimester grades, skill sets, and trimester comments as required by TMS Review student support plans and implement accommodations recommended by the student support team
Qualifications:
Strong communication skills and commitment to teamwork Commitment to ongoing professional growth and learning, dynamic and innovative teaching, and the growth and development of others on the team Classroom teaching experience preferred Background in literature, writing instruction, history, discussion-based learning, and/or interdisciplinary humanities teaching preferred An undergraduate degree or graduate degree in related fields of Education, English, History, Humanities, or related disciplines is preferred Experience in outdoor, international, or other experiential education trips preferred Strong skiing and/or other outdoor skills preferred Willingness to acquire and maintain
WFA/CPR/AED
certifications
