We seek highly committed educators who believe that all children can learn, regardless of circumstance, and who view education as a powerful mechanism for breaking the cycle of poverty and expanding opportunities for students and families. Middle school teachers are responsible for creating engaging, standards-aligned learning environments that challenge students academically while fostering strong character, resilience, and personal growth during a critical stage of adolescent development. Teachers work collaboratively with colleagues, families, and school leaders to ensure every student is known, supported, and prepared for success in high school, college, career, and life. Essential Responsibilities Instruction and Student Achievement Plan and deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction that promotes high levels of student engagement and achievement. Analyze student achievement data and use findings to adjust instruction and intervention strategies. Establish ambitious academic expectations and hold all students accountable for meeting them. Provide timely, actionable feedback that supports student growth. Maintain accurate records of student performance and progress. Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning. Incorporate diverse teaching strategies to meet varied learning styles. Collaborate with colleagues to develop curriculum, improve instructional practice, and support school-wide initiatives. Social-Emotional Learning and School Culture Demonstrate commitment to the mission, values, and educational model of Brass City Charter School. Integrate SEL into daily instruction and interactions. Build strong relationships with students that promote trust, accountability, and belonging. Reinforce schoolwide expectations and contribute positively to school culture. Support students in developing self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision-making, and interpersonal skills. Family and Community Engagement Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, achievements, and concerns. Partner with parents and guardians to support student success. Participate in family conferences, school events, and community-building activities. Professional Responsibilities Participate actively in professional development, coaching, and team meetings. Reflect on teaching practice and implement feedback to continuously improve effectiveness. Perform additional duties as assigned to support the school's mission and operations. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Eligibility for Connecticut teaching certification or the ability to obtain a Connecticut Charter School Educator Permit, including achieving passing scores on required Praxis examinations. Strong commitment to educational equity and student achievement. Demonstrated track record of maintaining high expectations for all students. Experience working with middle school-aged students and the ability to establish effective classroom management systems. Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students and families from diverse backgrounds. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team. Preferred Current Connecticut teaching certification in a middle school content area. Experience implementing restorative practices and/or
RULER SEL.
