Job Description

The Villages Charter School (VCS) opened in August 2000 and is one of the most successful public charter schools in Florida. In fact, VCS has been a "High Performing Charter School", earned a "School of Excellence" and has received 22 straight "A" ratings from the Florida Department of Education! This year, VCS earned the "Cognia School and Systems of Distinction" from the international accreditation group Cognia. The Villages Charter School spans two campuses. Our Buffalo Ridge campus has three elementary attendance centers and one middle school building. Our newest campus, "Middleton", opened in August 2023 with a K-8 center and a state-of-the-art high school complex. VCS currently serves over 4100 students, kindergarten through 12th grades with an overall capacity of 6500 (500 students per grade level) across both campuses. DESCRIPTION
The Villages High School is accepting applications for a High School Chorus Teacher for the 2026-2027 School year. (Experience and Master's Degree in Music preferred) Applicants must complete The Villages Charter School online application. In order for the application to be complete, you must also include copies of all transcripts, a copy of the Florida Professional Certificate or "Statement of Eligibility" from the Florida Department of Education, copy of resume and letters of recommendation.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES
To provide an educational atmosphere in which students will move toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological growth and maturation in accordance with the mission and goals of The Villages Charter School and the District.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1.
Instructional Excellence & Pedagogy Vocal Development:
Implement advanced vocal pedagogy techniques to ensure student vocal health and the development of professional-grade choral tone across various genres.
Musical Literacy:
Lead comprehensive instruction in music theory and sight-reading (Solfège), preparing students for collegiate-level music programs and high-level performance.
Instructional Adaptation:
Differentiate instruction and adjust activities for students with disabilities to ensure an inclusive and supportive environment for all performers.
Teaching Standards:
Meet with and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated. 2.
Performance & Production Management Concert Leadership:
Plan, coordinate, and conduct major annual events, including Winter/Spring Concerts and various high-profile community performances within The Villages.
Assessment & Competition:
Prepare ensembles for and oversee participation in Musical Performance Assessments (MPA) and other state-level choral competitions.
Theatrical Collaboration:
Provide musical direction for school musical theater productions, collaborating closely with the theatre teacher, upon request.
Rehearsal Oversight:
Plan and supervise required after-school rehearsals to ensure performance readiness for all ensembles. 3.
Student Character & Environment Management Growth-Oriented Environment:
Provide a safe, nurturing environment that stimulates academic, moral, and social growth.
Character Development:
Assist students in learning to accept responsibility, demonstrate respect for people and property, and demonstrate self-discipline.
Communication:
Communicate clearly and effectively in both written and oral form with students, parents, and others. 4.
Instructional Planning & Implementation Diverse Learning:
Implement a variety of instructional techniques to meet varying learning styles of students.
Curriculum Execution:
Plan and effectively implement instructional activities designed to achieve goals and objectives of the curriculum.
Instructional Focus:
Maintain a consistent focus on the established instructional goals of the fine arts department. 5.
Safety, Compliance & Records Student Safety:
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Physical Wellbeing:
Use knowledge of an individual student's physical condition in planning and implementing appropriate physical activities.
Progress Monitoring:
Evaluate student progress on a regular basis to include academic and social growth of the students.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS
1.
Education & Experience Degree Requirement:
Bachelor's Degree (B.A./B.M.) or higher from an accredited educational institution.
Preferred Education:
Master's Degree in Music, Choral Conducting, or Vocal Pedagogy is highly preferred.
Professional Experience:
One to two years of related experience in choral directing or vocal instruction; experience at the high school level is preferred. 2.
Certification & Licensure Florida Certification:
Must hold a valid professional teaching certificate issued by the State of Florida in Music K-12.
Additional Qualifications:
Such additional or alternative qualifications to the above as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
205 days - Exempt. Benefits shall be paid consistent with the VCS policy. Length of the work year and hours of employment are those established by the Board. All prospective employees will be required to be fingerprinted through the Clearinghouse, instructions provided when hired. EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of TVCS policy on evaluations of personnel.
