Job Description

At The Benjamin School, we believe that good teachers set high standards for their students and do everything they can to help them achieve them. We are looking for teachers who will support students as they become self-directed, independent learners with superior academic collegiate skills. We are seeking an innovative STEM Coordinator and Robotics teacher who is passionate about hands-on learning, emerging technologies, and inspiring young adolescents to think like engineers, designers, and problem-solvers. The ideal candidate will be able to incorporate several teaching styles and use varied approaches to reach the students and make the material accessible. A desire to work with students in a challenging, college-preparatory environment, along with strong interpersonal and written communication skills, is essential for this role. Qualified candidates should demonstrate a passion for science, a love of teaching middle school students, intellectual curiosity, strong communication skills, the ability to work within a team, skills to engage and inspire students in the pursuit of learning, and a commitment to ongoing professional development. The person filling this position will coordinate interdisciplinary STEM initiatives and teach sections of Middle School Robotics.
Position Responsibilities:
STEM Coordination Lead the development, alignment, and implementation of the middle school STEM curriculum. Collaborate with teachers across disciplines to integrate STEM concepts into core academic subjects. Evaluate and recommend STEM resources, tools, and technologies to enhance instruction. Robotics Instruction & Team Leadership Teach middle school robotics classes using VEX or similar systems. Coach and mentor the competitive robotics and drone teams, including scheduling practices, preparing students for competitions, and managing tournament logistics. Maintain robotics equipment, tools, and materials; ensure safe and effective use of the robotics lab. Foster teamwork, perseverance, and creative problem-solving within robotics programs.
Professional Qualifications:
The most desirable candidates will have the following background or comparable experience: A bachelor's degree in science or a related field is required; An advanced degree in science, STEM education, or engineering is preferred; Minimum three years of teaching experience in a rigorous, college preparatory program at the Middle School level; Background in chemistry, physics, computer science, algebra, and geometry; Strong community engagement, team-building, organizational, and communication skills Interest in 3D printing, robotics, drones, and/or integrating engineering principles into the curriculum; Willingness to create a student-centered classroom; Interest and experience interacting with students outside the classroom in co-curricular activities: sports, arts, social service, etc.

Physical and Work Requirements:
Prolonged periods of time sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Occasional movement about the office and lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Ability to work in excess of 8 hours a day, as well as evening and weekend hours as necessary for events and projects. Travel required for meetings, events, and professional development.
